The short version
Koto is a screenwriting tool. You own everything you write. We provide the software and, for Pro subscribers, an AI brainstorm service. These terms cover how that works.
Your content
Your screenplays, notes, voice profiles, and all other files you create with Koto belong to you. We claim no ownership or license over your work. Your files live on your machine — we never have access to them unless you explicitly send them through the brainstorm panel.
The brainstorm service
Pro subscribers get access to Koto's AI brainstorm panel. When you use it, relevant context from your script is sent to our servers and forwarded to the AI provider. We do not store this content. The brainstorm panel is a thinking tool — any ideas it surfaces are yours to use however you see fit.
Pro subscription
Pro costs $15/month, billed through Stripe. You can cancel anytime. When you cancel, you keep access through the end of your billing period, then revert to the free tier. Your files remain on your machine regardless.
Free tier
The free tier includes the full editor, Fountain formatting, local file management, and PDF export (with a small watermark). A limited number of brainstorm sessions are included so you can try the AI features.
Acceptable use
Don't use Koto's brainstorm service to generate content that violates laws or third-party rights. Don't attempt to circumvent usage limits or reverse-engineer the service. Be a professional.
Changes
We may update these terms. Significant changes will be communicated via email to Pro subscribers. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance.
